Bespoke Learning

Since beginning WLFC in 2017, we have created a productive cutting garden that has provided ample seasonal blooms for our wedding clients as well as enabling us to supply to some of London’s most high profile florists and have been thrilled to feature in Vogue, The Evening Standard, Bloom Magazine and The Daily Telegraph.

We’ve made tons of mistakes but learnt a whole lot more and are now keen to pass on our learning to people taking early steps into flower growing. You might have just signed a lease for a ramshackle old nursery glasshouse, agreed to grow your friends wedding flowers for next year or want to improve your approach to successional seed sowing and harvesting.

We can design a bespoke day of learning based on your objectives encompassing growing, floristry, business development or a bit of everything. We and our cutting garden can be at your disposal for the day!

Our video sessions start from £65 and a day’s private bespoke learning from £350 although rates can be agreed for small groups or duos too. Fill out the form below to begin the conversation with us...

Sowing, arranging & styling the cutting garden in May

Join WLFC, photographer and stylist Janne Ford and floral designer Leigh Chappell to immerse yourself in the floral inspiration of the cutting garden in May.

The day will begin with refreshments and a tour of WLFC’s micro flower farm and glasshouses learning how we have grown our business and focused on environmental growing practices since we sowed our first seeds in 2017. We’ll spend a hands on morning sowing half hardy seeds together, talk seasonality, top tips for harvesting flowers and and then observe how Leigh selects her ingredients and creates a hand tied bouquet using seasonal blooms cut from our cutting garden.

Following a simple, seasonal lunch we’ll spend the afternoon making bouquets and learning the key techniques from Janne on how to style and photograph your work for your own portfolio.

Every participant will leave with a tray of seeds, their seasonal bouquet finished with a botanically dyed ribbon from The Natural Dyeworks and photographs to use in their own portfolio in the future.

The day is open to all flower lovers, florists, gardeners and stylists.

If unable to proceed due to Covid-19 we are happy to refund or transfer your booking to another day

Flower Farming Experience Days: Tulips

This workshop has now been postponed due to the UK’s lockdown.

Experience days at WLFC give you the opportunity to come along and get your hands in the soil for a full day of flower farming and to ask us any questions you might have about how to get your cutting garden off the ground.

November is the perfect time of year to get your tulips in the ground so we’ll talk you through how we select which varieties of tulips to grow, where we source them from and how we plan to look after them over the winter. The day will include a tour of our micro flower farm, a practical tulip planting session encompassing planting in the ground and into crates and our top tips for how best to harvest your tulips for optimum stem length and longevity in the spring.

Light refreshments will be provided in the morning and afternoon but please bring a packed lunch with you.

Cost is £75 per person .

Flower Farmer’s Big Weekend - Online Q&A

In late August Flower Farmers across the UK planned on throwing open their gates and welcoming people in for Flower Farmers Big Weekend to discover more about seasonal, sustainable British Flowers. 2020 was sadly not the year for mass gatherings, so instead we’ll be online ready to welcome any questions about growing flowers on Thursday 20th August at 3pm. Whether you're interested in growing flowers at home for the kitchen table or you're a flower farming newbie, we'd love for you to join.

We’ll talk through some of our biggest successes and failures of 2020, our plans for 2021 and invite questions in advance so we cover the bits you’re most interested in!

PS! This is a FREE event, however any donations made will go towards Life Lebanon and the Beirut emergency fund, in light of the recent explosion that has caused catastrophic humanitarian, economic and public health crises.
